Mentor MemoryShape Implants Now FDA-Approved

It looks like 2013 is the year of the silicone breast implants! Last February, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Allergan’s Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Gel Filled Breast Implants for aesthetic and reconstructive surgeries. Just this week, the FDA also announced the approval of MemoryShape breast implants, an implant manufactured by Mentor Worldwide LLC. This is certainly good news for women considering breast augmentation or breast reconstruction in Manhattan. It’s no longer one size fits all! Women can now look forward to more choices for natural-looking breasts.
More Natural Feel and Youthful Shape
In a press release posted last June 14, Mentor announced the approval of the teardrop-shaped implants for women who wish to have a “more natural shape and youthful feel from breast enhancement or reconstruction surgery”.
The approval is based on a clinical trial of approximately 955 women who demonstrated that there is a “reasonable assurance of safety and effectiveness” after getting MemoryShape breast implants and who received post-procedure follow up for almost 10 years. The youthful firmness and natural look brought about by the newly-approved Mentor implants are attributed to its distinct gel formulation which allow for shape retention and its teardrop shape which is akin to a natural breast’s silhouette.
“Over the past 25 years, we have been exploring opportunities to improve breast implants,” said Dennis Hammond, M.D, lead researcher of the MemoryShape clinical trial . “The MENTOR® MemoryShape breast implants incorporate several new design features, such as the cohesive gel that allows the implant to be formed into a teardrop shape to fit each individual patient”.
Available in Different Sizes!
It is also interesting to note that the MemoryShape breast implants are available in various sizes. Dr. Steven Wallach could use a standardized BodyLogic® System. This implant sizing system provides a range of selection tools and materials for plastic surgeons to use when helping women decide which implant size is best for them.

“Hallelujah! Mentor finally got approval for their Memoryshape cohesive gel implants.
