FAQ

Sculptra in New York

Frequently Asked Question

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a product that is used to fill areas of facial deflation. Interestingly, it is an L-polylactic acid product similar to an absorbable suture that is used in surgery. This is one of the newer products in the U.S. market that is currently only approved as a facial filler for lipoatrophy or fat loss, secondary to HIV drug therapy. However, some physicians are using this “off-label” to treat fat wasting of the face that comes with natural aging. In Europe, this has been used for the past several years. It requires two to four treatments over a few months and is supposed to last for several years.

What is a good product to treat hollowing in my temples?

Hollowing of the temples is a common complaint in individuals as they get older. Sculptra is a product that can be placed delicately in this area, and over a series of treatments, the hollowness can be improved. Other fillers can be used as well. I sometimes inject diluted Restylane into the area to get a similar desired result. I have also performed fat injections to improve this area as well.

I have cheek hollowness. What can I do for this?

Lower cheek hollowness is a common complaint in patients that are very thin. This hollowness can be improved with Sculptra treatment. Often the Sculptra treatment has to be repeated over several months to achieve the desired result. Other fillers such as fat or hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane Lyft, Restylane, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Ultra, or Voluma can improve this area as well.
