Many patients will ask me if they can have a tummy tuck and liposuction performed at the same time. In general, what I do for patients is I will liposuction their flanks, their hips but not the central area where I elevate the soft tissue for a tummy tuck because when I do the procedure a lot of the blood supply is changed which is very common and the blood supply that normally will come in from below or through the muscles into the soft tissue and then are divided so the only real good supplies are coming from the sides and from above and these goes through the fatty layer. I often tell patients is I will not liposuction the central area. If they choose to have that done I do it in a later time or so that I will do the tummy tuck first and then the liposuction second or I will do the liposuction first and come back a few three to four months later and do the formal tummy tuck. But I think combining the 2 together at the same time using the technique that I used may result in problems that I won’t tell.
