Can I Have Eyelid Surgery Under Local?

Serving New York City, Manhattan

Sometimes patients asked can they have their eyes done under straight local anesthesia. In general I will say no I have commonly done just uppers with local anesthesia in patients that’s tolerance of minor discomfort whenever I will do upper blepharoplasty if I have to remove some of the fat as well it can be a little bit uncomfortable and I often use twilight anesthesia which is basically giving of sedation using a board certified anesthesiologist. But in general if I’m doing both upper and lower eyelids I will usually use some sort of sedation that is provided by a board certified anesthesiologist. I won’t let patients to be uncomfortable during the procedure and if they are comfortable then I can focus on the operation and do the best procedure that I possibly can for them.
