Commonly I may asked to treat a dorsal hump or bump on the nose and what is that entail. Well a bump on the nose is usually 2 things which is an open bone which is in the upper third to half of the nose and then the lower half to lower third is called cartilageness. So often the bone has to be shaped down and cartilage has to be trimmed with a scissor or knife. When this is done the bones often look a little flat they and have what it’s called an open rope. So when patients asked will you have to corporate my bones, well we dont’t really just break them we do precise cuts to the bones to narrow the flat dorsam and make it more triangular in shape so there is a softer lie on the nose and it doesn’t look too flat. That is what is done during a dorsal hump reduction.
