Preparation

Not much preparation is required for your facial fat injections. However, if you are a smoker, you should avoid smoking for a few weeks leading to and post your procedure. You should also avoid blood thinners for 1-2 weeks prior to the procedure. Dr. Wallach will give you explicit instructions to follow to make sure your procedure is safe and effective.

Procedure

During your consultation, Dr. Wallach will assess the shape and contours of your face to determine which areas of your face will benefit from increased volume. This could be any area on your face which has lost volume over the years. Most patients opt to get volume enhancement in their cheeks.

Once the receiving area is determined, Dr. Wallach will assess the donor site. The most common areas for this are the abdomen, thighs, and waist. There is some downtime involved after the procedure, but risks of complications are minimal. Dr. Wallach will advise you about the recovery period as well as aftercare instructions to follow after you return home.

Results

The results from your facial fat injections are visible immediately. The enhancement may appear greater right after your procedure, but this settles by the time you see your final results. This is why the amount of fat transferred to your face will be slightly greater than what is required since your body absorbs some fat cells and not all survive the transfer process.   Future procedures may be necessary to add more volume as you age.  You may require a day or more of downtime, depending on your procedure, so that your donor site can heal.
