One of the most popular trends here at our Manhattan plastic surgery practice is the Mommy Makeover, referring to a collection of procedures designed to help new mothers regain their pre-pregnancy body and look. The procedures involved often include breast augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction, facelift and Botox. However, we have also noticed that a growing number of men, most of which are already fathers, are also showing a keen interest in what plastic surgery can do for them.
Why Men May Also Need a Makeover
New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Steven Wallach says that this trend may have to do with the stress of becoming a new parent. Although women’s bodies are altered during pregnancy and childbirth, new fathers also tend to experience a lot of pressure and stress while assisting in taking care of the newborn. This can actually make a man look perpetually tired and and appear older than his real age.
Even the most well-behaved of newborns and kids could make a new father lose sleep, resulting in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Furthermore, they may have no time to prepare healthy meals and have a quick workout at the nearest gym.
Ideal Daddy Makeover Procedures
We recommend the following procedures for the man (and new father!) of the house:
- Brow Lift – It’s no surprise that a man may look constantly tired or upset after not getting enough hours of sleep taking turns with his partner in taking care of the newborn. A brow lift can help rejuvenate the upper third of the face and improve the appearance of puffiness and tired eyes. Dr. Wallach tailors multiple different brow lift procedures to accommodate his patients needs. A non-surgical lift can take 10-20 minutes with little to no downtime using filler materials and/or Botox/Dysport, while a more permanent lift using various surgical techniques usually takes between 1-2 hours with a recuperation time of 7-10 days.
- Liposuction/Tummy Tuck –Both procedures are ideal for men who are within their ideal body weight but can’t seem to get rid of the extra pockets of fat in stubborn bodily areas such as the abdomen and thighs. Liposuction can also help men get rid of their “man boobs”.
- Botox and dermal fillers– These injectables are suitable for men who want to get rid of their wrinkles and facial creases but are not sure yet if they would like a surgical procedure.
