Consultation
During the consultation, you will spend a lot of time with the doctor reviewing your surgical goals. An exam will then be performed, and a surgical plan will be discussed with you at length. At this stage, we’ll also discuss if an inner or outer thigh lift is best for you.
Risks
The risks of this surgical procedure include poor wound healing, infection, seroma, hematoma, dysesthesia, unfavorable scarring, rebound laxity, and the need for further procedures.
An outer or inner thigh lift procedure is often performed under general anesthesia and can be performed with a crescent excision pattern in the groin crease or a hockey stick type incision going vertically down the medial thigh. If the lateral thigh lift procedure is performed, then this is often accomplished with an incision along the belt line.
LATERAL THIGH LIFT
The lateral thigh lift technique is performed to treat loose lateral thigh skin that often occurs after a significant amount of weight loss. Commonly, this area is treated during a circumferential abdominoplasty. The incision used is often the same as used during a lower body lift (LBL). Often, a formal lateral thigh lift procedure will be performed after an LBL when the patient can be placed on their side with the treated leg in an extended position (abducted). Sometimes liposuction is performed as well to remove excess fat. Interestingly, because of the way the skin of the thigh adheres to the leg, pulling up on the lateral thigh spirals around toward the inner thigh, and may provide some improvement of the inner (medial thigh) as well. This plastic surgery procedure can be performed in two to three hours, and the recuperation takes one to two weeks.nd the recuperation takes one to two weeks.
MEDIAL THIGH LIFT
The medial thigh lift is performed to improve the appearance of the inner thigh. It can treat loose, sagging skin and excess skin and the deeper soft tissue excess. Variations of this plastic surgery procedure approach will depend upon the severity of the laxity.
EXTENDED MEDIAL THIGH LIFT
This is performed in patients with severe laxity of the inner thigh that extends toward the knee. This is more commonly performed in patients with massive weight loss. An “L” shaped vertical incision pattern is the final resulting closure. There is a groin crease incision as well as a longitudinal incision down the inner thigh toward the knee region. During the procedure, the plastic surgeon ensures the removal of excess skin and soft tissue within the pattern, and the result is an incision closure like the inseam of a pair of pants.
