One of the reasons men opt for an arm lift surgery is from significant weight loss which leaves excessive skin. If you have good skin elasticity, you can achieve good results with liposuction alone, but many need an arm lift for better results. Scars from the procedure are placed on the inner arm, making them easier to conceal.
Massive weight fluctuation and aging leads to excessive and sagging skin or extra fat in the upper arms. It is almost impossible to lose the fat or the extra skin simply with dieting or exercising. This can be remedied with two cosmetic procedures, liposuction and arm lift (Brachioplasty).
If you have good skin elasticity, liposuction will be a great option to remove fat and tighten the skin to a certain extent. This works best for men who are concerned with extra fat on the upper arm.
The liposuction procedure involves the use of local anesthesia and IV sedation and it is performed on an outpatient basis. Dr. Wallach may use one or two incisions for your arm liposuction procedure, one could be by the armpit area and another by your elbow. These incisions are then used to insert the cannula for breaking up the fat cells and removing them using suction.
If you also have sagging skin in addition to excessive fat in your upper arms, liposuction will not help you achieve the desired results. For severe drooping of skin on your upper arms, Dr. Wallach will choose the arm lift surgery that allows him to excise the extra skin. It is an extensive surgical procedure but one that allows Dr. Wallach to offer you a dramatic enhancement of the upper arms so that you feel more confident baring your arms in public. The arm lift surgery is a commonly chosen procedure for men who have lost massive weight and are now bothered with excessive skin hanging from their upper arms.
Brachioplasty or arm lift is performed on an outpatient basis and under IV sedation and local or general anesthesia. The incision used for the procedure runs from your elbow to the armpit on the inner side of your upper arm. This will give you smoother and tighter skin that make the arms look youthful. Your scars from the procedure will fade within a year, so you don’t have to worry about the look of scarring for a long time.
You will be discharged within an hour after your procedure and you can move about the same day. The sutures used for your procedure are dissolvable and most men report only minimal discomfort or pain. You will be able to return to a desk job within a few days and exercising can be resumed within 1-2 weeks from your surgery. You will be able to do light aerobics within 3-4 weeks, and then heavy lifting and exertion in about 6-8 weeks.
For complete rejuvenation, the arm lift procedure can be combined with other procedures of the face and body. During your consultation, Dr. Wallach will listen to your issues and discuss all available options to help you achieve optimal results.
