by Dr. Steven Wallach
Many women in New York City today are undergoing buttock augmentation surgery to achieve a round, shapely buttocks. Dr. Steven Wallach offers buttock implants, Brazilian Buttock lifts, and buttock lifts in conjunction with lower body lifts. Read on to learn about these buttock augmentation options.
Buttock Implants
Buttock implants are one option if you want a rounder, firmer, more shapely buttocks. In other parts of the world, buttock implants are silicone gel implants, and are a softer silicone than we have access to in the U.S. In the U.S., buttock implants are firmer, like form stable implants, but are also pliable. These implants can be placed easily through a reasonably sized incision.
Buttock implants are commonly used when a patient wants a significant change in volume, or they do not have significant donor sites for fat injection. This surgery usually takes between two to three hours, and recovery takes about a week.
Brazilian Buttock Lift (BBL)
Dr. Steven Wallach performs a Brazilian Buttock lift by harvesting fat cells from other areas of the body and inserting them into the buttocks. This is a natural way to provide augmentation, and is commonly done in conjunction with liposuction. Buttock augmentation using this technique is limited by the amount of fat donor sites. In other words, if a patient is very thin there may not be enough fat to harvest for the procedure.
Touch-ups or repeat procedures may be required to obtain the desired results because fat does not take 100%. in the tissues Dr. Wallach recommends that patients avoid aerobic activities for at least three weeks and strenuous activities for at least six weeks after surgery.
Buttock Lift with Auto-Augmentation
Commonly, a buttock lift is done in conjunction with a lower body lift in patients that have experienced massive weight loss. If the buttocks have deflated and sagged, excess tissue and skin is removed and the buttock is lifted. In some cases, in place of removing the excess tissue, flaps of this tissue can be rotated into the buttock region, augmenting the area. This procedure takes around two to three hours, and recovery time is around one week.
