The appearance of excess and sagging skin usually follows massive weight loss. The sagging skin is often influenced by factors such genetics, how much weight was lost, how fast your weight loss was, how much of the skin was stretched, and your age. If you are not genetically inclined to fight sagging skin after weight loss, you might want to visit Dr. Steven Wallach for a Manhattan tummy tuck consultation.
Ideal Candidates
Contrary to popular belief, a tummy tuck isn’t for everyone. You are an ideal candidate for such body contouring procedure if you are currently having one or more of the conditions below:
- protruding abdomen which is also out of proportion with the rest of your body
- you have tried exercising and diet revisions to reduce your belly size but to no avail
- weakened abdominal muscles due to pregnancy or massive weight loss
- you are within 10 percent of your ideal body weight
Surgery Overview
By and large, a tummy tuck begins with a horizontal incision a little above the pubic area. While a scar will almost always develop in all surgeries, Dr. Wallach sees to it that the scar is as low as possible – low enough to be covered by an underwear or bikini. When the weak underlying muscles are already exposed, they will then be pulled together while excess skin will be removed. If possible, stretch marks will also be removed by Dr. Wallach.
Most of the abdominoplasty procedures described take between 2-3 hours to perform with a recuperation time of 1-2 weeks. The circumferential abdominoplasty (lower body lift) can take 4-6 hours to perform. Dr. Wallach has presented at national meetings and published journal articles on abdominal contour procedures.
