A whopping 98 percent of women interviewed in a recent survey covering post-breast augmentation patients revealed that the surgery results met or exceeded their expectations. A detailed report of the study is published in the May issue of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal. The findings of the report are certainly good news, particularly if you been having second thoughts about breast augmentation in Manhattan with Dr. Steven Wallach.
Details of the Survey
The survey evaluated and interviewed 225 women with an average age of 34 years old who returned for an interview a month after they had a breast augmentation. The survey itself spanned 5 years. The interviews covered areas such as results, recovery, complications, and psychological effects.
The majority of the women had saline filled implants with an average volume of 390 cc. With regards to pain, the average pain score reported by the women during recovery was 5.9 on 10-point pain scale. On an average of 25 days post-surgery, the women felt that their lives were already “back to normal”.
“Eighty-five percent of women rated their new breast size “just right.” Thirteen percent would have preferred a larger size and less than two percent a smaller size. Only one percent expressed dissatisfaction with their scars, which were usually located in the crease under the breast. Seventy-five percent of women rated their breast firmness “just right.” When asked to rate the result, over half of the patients gave it a perfect 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Almost all patients (98 percent) reported that the results met or exceeded their expectations.”
As for the numbness, only 2 percent reported persistent numbness while 40 percent reported temporary numbness following surgery. Ten percent of the women surveyed talked about experiencing complications post-procedure.
Psychological Benefits
It is also interesting to note that before the procedure, 86 percent or the women were self-conscious of their breasts before the procedure. After their breast augmentation surgery, only 13 percent of them were self-conscious of how their breasts look.
The survey has given both plastic surgeons and clients a glimpse of patient satisfaction levels post-breast augmentation. With such positive results, it’s no surprise that breast augmentation procedures will continue to increase in number and stay on top of the most popular cosmetic procedures. In 2012, breast augmentation led the pack of top 5 surgical cosmetic procedures in the U.S.
