In the United States, November is celebrated as National Healthy Skin Month. It serves as a time to promote healthy skincare habits to protect children and adults from various diseases, including acne, psoriasis, and dry skin. Data shows that one of every three Americans will develop some form of skin cancer in their lifetime. Knowing the best times to go outdoors and protecting your skin is critical to reducing this high statistic. Additionally, there are many at-home precautions you can take to prevent future damage. Understanding specific procedures to maintain healthy skin will help you better care for your skin during National Healthy Skin Month.
Tips to maintain a healthy skin
ALWAYS USE SUNSCREEN AND REAPPLY 30 MINUTES AFTER BEING OUTSIDE
This will protect you from future harmful UVA and UVB rays.
AVOID TANNING BEDS
Although it is popular to be tan, the ultraviolet radiation that comes with tanning can cause more damage than good. Many states have banned minors from using these beds; however, avoiding them altogether is the safest bet for healthier skin. Instead, choose self tanner or a spray tan.
DO NOT PICK, SCRATCH, OR SQUEEZE YOUR BLEMISHES
This can lead to scarring and redness. If a blemish is inflamed, put a cold compress on the area to reduce swelling and inflammation. This allows for healthier-looking skin without creating additional damage.
EXERCISE REGULARLY
Exercise offers many different health benefits but can also improve the tone and texture of your skin. If exercising outside, wearing sunscreen is very importan.
WATCH WHAT YOU EAT
What we eat impacts directly how our body functions and looks. Ensuring that you are eating nutritious foods will help provide the energy your body needs while preventing other health problems such as arthritis.
PRACTICE HEALTHY HYGIENE HABITS
This includes showering at night, using salicylic acid to cleanse pores, and sunscreen every day.
Healthy Skin Solutions
BODY SCULPTING
This includes treatments to create a toned and slimmer body shape. Some options include liposuction to reduce stubborn fat or Sculptra to define areas like the buttocks.
CELLULITE TREATMENT
For some, reducing fat through treatments like liposuction can smooth cellulite. QWO injections are also a good cellulite reduction option.
FACIAL REJUVENATION
This includes facial procedures that minimize wrinkles and fine lines to smooth out the skin’s appearance. Non-surgical procedures like Botox injections can smooth wrinkles near the eyes or forehead. A facelift or brow lift can also be good options for more pronounced sagging and aging signs.
SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS
This includes laser resurfacing treatments that remove the top layer of the skin to uncover smoother skin underneath.
WRINKLE FILLERS
This includes softening the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines to smooth out the skin’s appearance. Dermal fillers like Juvederm can be used to soften wrinkles and restore lost volume.
