Popularly known as a nose job, rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that helps alter the shape and size of your nose. Unlike the use of injectables for facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty is an invasive procedure that gives you permanent long-term results. The surgery has different degrees of invasiveness; you can add cartilage grafts, remove some of the nasal cartilage, or treat the entire nasal bone, cartilage, and soft tissue, giving you a more shapely and graceful nose.

Men and women have different bodies with varied requirements. Usually, men desire a stronger nose with a more modest nasal tip; while women wish to decrease the size of their nose and add a slight upturn to the nasal tip. Additionally, each gender can come with different skin thicknesses around the nose which can affect results differently.

These different needs require that your chosen plastic surgeon knows different techniques for each patient. Even though a majority of rhinoplasty surgeries are performed on women, it is not a procedure exclusively for women. Men get nose jobs too, and about 10-15% percent of all rhinoplasty surgeries are performed on men.

Procedure

Rhinoplasty is a customizable procedure, so the technique depends on your individual requirements. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation while Dr. Wallach uses his vast experience and surgical skills to reshape your nose. If you are suffering from breathing issues, an internal surgery involving the septum and/or turbinates may also be performed to alleviate your symptoms.

Some of the side effects of rhinoplasty include swelling, bleeding, pain, bruising, and stiffness of the skin as you heal. In most cases, the bandages are removed within a a week, and most people can return to the gym within about 6 weeks.  It can take a year and sometimes longer to see the final result. You must be sure to attend all your follow-up appointments since these allow Dr. Wallach to make sure that your healing process is proceeding correctly.

Even though rhinoplasty is an attractive surgical option for achieving the nose one desires, not everybody is a good candidate for the procedure. The best candidate is in good health and has realistic expectations from the procedure. He should also wish to alter the shape of the nose due to cosmetic or functional reasons. Your plastic surgeon will also check to ensure that you have sufficient bone and cartilage to be able to sustain the changes made by rhinoplasty.
