Liposuction is a great way for both men and women in New York City to eliminate unwanted fat and contour their bodies. Liposuction techniques have evolved over the years, with there now being a selection of techniques available; laser lipolysis being one of them. Laser lipolysis is a type of technology where liposuction is performed with a laser probe that will heat the inside tissues to melt the fat. Standard liposuction cannulas are still used to suck out the fat. Dr. Wallach can use laser lipolysis similar to SmartLipo™, at his practice. There are pros and cons with this procedure, as there are with any procedure. Read on to learn about these pros and cons.
Liposuction Advantages
One of the biggest advantages of laser lipolysis is that it may have a skin tightening effect. This is an extra bonus along with the removal of excess fat. This procedure also offers quick recovery, with most patients being able to return to everyday activities in two to three days. This technique is associated with minimal postoperative pain, mild bruising, and edema. Because of the liquefaction of adipose tissue and a small cannula size, it is thought there might be less trauma inflicted to remove fat. It is, overall, considered a safe procedure.
Liposuction Disadvantages
This procedure may be inadequate for treating large areas, and some surgeons still insist on using it along with traditional liposuction rather than as its own treatment. The thin and flexible laser fiber cannula that is used may also make it hard for the surgeon to perceive the exact depth of tissues. Thermal injury is also a risk, and procedural time is increased.
