Cleansing peels are one of the most popular ways to even your skin in tone and texture. They rejuvenate and deep cleanse your skin while also eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. If you’re up for about a week of peeling and healing skin, this might be the best option for your face.
A Really Intense Facial
During a TCA peel, a chemical solution containing trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is applied to the skin. In a way, it is
similar to the creams and masks that are applied to your face during a soothing facials. The difference is in the length and intensity. You leave the TCA solution on your skin—and it’s much stronger. After all, it is acid.
The solution remains active on your face for about 40 minutes. This period might be painful, but you will be given pain killers or even a sedative to help you remain calm and comfortable. Just remember the reason behind it: you essentially put acid on your skin in order to get a more beautiful face.
As the TCA soaks into your skin, it literally burns your skin, which then peels off during the next days and weeks. This kills off all the dead or damaged skin, but in a controlled way. You choose where the TCA is applied, and therefore also choose where new skin will grow in its place.
Give It Some TLC
After a medium peel like a TCA peel, you need to take special care of your skin. Your doctor will give you a special skin care regimen, often with certain soaps or moisturizers to use. Because the skin will be extra sensitive, make sure you are moisturizing every day, as well as applying any medication the doctor gave you. In addition, stay out of the sun, and when you do go out after a week or two use sunscreen.
The process and the recovery might be intense, but it is still a far cry from surgery, and if you want to see the results, it is worth it. Come in and see Dr. Steven Wallach for a TCA peel and watch the years and damage literally come off your face and body.
