Recovery is an important part of any surgical procedure to ensure safe and satisfying results! When it comes to your breast augmentation, there are a few things you should avoid during your initial recovery process to make sure you heal effectively. Here’s what NOT to do after your breast augmentation procedure:
Wear an underwire bra
When you go home from your procedure, you wear a sports bra that should be worn as often as possible during your recovery period. You should not wear a regular underwire bra for four to six weeks after your procedure. Not only can an underwire bra irritate your incisions, they can also displace your implants. Your implants need time to drop and settle beneath your skin. A bra that pushes the implants up could prevent them from dropping properly.
Rush into your exercise routine
Although you might be eager to get back to your regular exercise routine and may even feel well enough, you must wait until you’ve completely healed. For the first week, this involves resting as much as possible. After three weeks, you can usually introduce light exercise, but nothing that targets the upper body. Avoid movements that involve the chest such as pushing, pulling, and lifting. After six weeks, you can introduce upper body workouts, but only if you feel well enough! Always listen to your body first and check with your surgeon before introducing new levels of activity.
Obsess over your results
Seeing your true results from your breast augmentation takes time. It’s important, especially while your incisions are healing, to leave your bandages on and fight the urge to look at your breasts. If your breasts aren’t perfectly positioned and symmetrical right away, don’t worry! Swelling can take many months to completely diminish and your implants will need time to settle into a natural position. It’s important to remain patient throughout the process and not focus on your results until after you’ve healed completely.
