Buttock implant surgery is one option to achieve a rounder, firmer, shapelier buttocks. Implants are commonly used in New York City when a patient desires a large volume change, or is too thin to have significant fat donor sites. Read on to learn about what to expect during buttock implant surgery.
Where are implants placed?
In the U.S., buttock implants are solid silicone implants. Buttock implants are placed usually through the buttock crease, either through a single incision or two parallel incisions just off the midline of the gluteal crease. The soft tissue is then elevated and a pocket position is decided, either in a subcutaneous pocket, a subfascial pocket, or an intramuscular pocket. However, it ultimately depends upon the patient’s individual anatomy.
How long does it take? What about recovery time?
Buttock implant surgery usually takes around two to three hours. Patients can expect recovery to take about a week. Dr. Wallach recommends that patients avoid any aerobic activities for at least three weeks, and strenuous activities for at least six weeks after surgery.
What to expect during recovery
Since the buttocks are used for walking, sitting, and many other movements, patients often experience more pain during recovery than with other plastic surgery procedures. Recovery time is also usually longer. To cope with post-surgery pain, pain medications are typically prescribed. Discomfort will start to subside after five to seven days.
During buttock implant recovery, there is usually a small amount of swelling and bruising, and the results are visible immediately after surgery. Patients are often placed in a molded compression garment for comfort and to maintain the implant position.
