When you wish to enhance the appearance of your nose permanently, rhinoplasty is the best procedure. Also known as nose surgery or nose job, it involves improving the size or form of your nose in relation to the rest of your facial features. In case your breathing has been affected by an accident, injury, or a birth defect, rhinoplasty can help you breathe well. There are risks involved with the nose surgery and you must take some days off to recuperate well from it. A board-certified surgeon will ensure that there are minimal risks from your surgery and the appearance of your nose is improved. Dr. Wallach has vast experience with the rhinoplasty procedure and has been offering consistently stunning results.
Choosing to undergo rhinoplasty
If you are considering rhinoplasty, you must schedule an appointment with your surgeon. During your consultation, discuss your cosmetic goals and let Dr. Wallach know what bothers you about your nose and what changes you expect with the procedure.
There is nothing like a perfect nose, but cosmetic surgery can help improve your facial features and enhance your natural beauty. Dr. Wallach will help identify your unique features and let you know how surgical changes can help enhance your appearance. Once your facial features and the nasal structure is evaluated, he will let you know if your expectations from the surgery are realistic.
Dr. Wallach will also evaluate your overall health and discuss surgical costs, risks, and recovery. There are various techniques that can be used for rhinoplasty and once you have decided to undergo the procedure, your surgeon will describe the best method that will be used for your specific concerns.
If you have health insurance, you must talk to them beforehand to know whether they will pay for your procedure and what you will have to pay for. Usually, any procedure that is done for cosmetic reasons is not covered.
What happens during your nose surgery?
Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure which can be performed either under local or general anesthesia. Once you are under anesthesia, you will be free from pain and relaxed. Dr. Wallach will then make incisions within your nostrils and often along the columella in order to make the required corrections. After this, the skin is lifted and the size of your bone or cartilage is either reduced or increased to achieve the required correction. Once the nose is contoured, the skin will be re-draped, and sutures put in place. Splints are placed on your nose and in some cases packing might be placed inside your nose. There might also be tiny tubes placed in the nostrils to help you breathe. Before you go home, you will be given antibiotics and pain-relieving medication. Dr. Wallach will give you detailed aftercare instructions.
Are you a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
Here are some common reasons why people opt for rhinoplasty:
- When you have a nose that is too small or too large for your face
- Your nose does not fit in harmoniously with the rest of your facial features
- Your nose is misshapen, crooked, or not in alignment
- You have trouble breathing due to nasal blockage
- You want to improve a birth defect
You should be in good general health, have a positive outlook and realistic expectations from the procedure to be a good candidate.
What will be the recovery like?
You will experience bruising and swelling around the eyes for about 3-7 days, but it begins to improve on its own. After your rhinoplasty, you may see mild swelling on and off for a few months and this might be worse in the mornings. Recovery from the procedure is a long one and you should avoid any strenuous activities for 6 weeks. However, you can return to your work after 1 to 2 weeks and your incision scars will be well hidden. It may take about a year for you to see the final nasal contour you want to achieve.
