Your nose is at the center of the face, and acts as an anchor for your other facial features. If your nose is disproportionate to your face, it can completely throw off your facial harmony. Many people who are unhappy with their nose can benefit from a rhinoplasty, which is a popular procedure that can improve the size, shape, and positioning of the nose.

The rhinoplasty procedure can be performed using one of two approaches. These include the open and closed approach.
The Closed Approach:
Traditionally, this surgical incision technique is most commonly used in rhinoplasty surgery. It allows the surgeon access to the underlying nasal framework without creating any incisions outside of the nose. This allows for no visible scarring on the nose.
The Open Approach:
The open approach includes a small incision on the columella, or the area of skin that separates the nostrils. This technique allows more exposure to the nasal structures for superior results. While there is an incision made on the columella, scarring is usually undetectable when healed. Dr. Wallach prefers this technique for most of his New York rhinoplasty patients.
Which One is Right for You?
The surgical approach used for your rhinoplasty procedure will depend on your individual anatomy, your desired outcomes, and Dr. Wallach’s recommendation. These factors can be discussed during your rhinoplasty consultation with Dr. Wallach.
